Early detection is a critical part of preventing deaths from a cancer diagnosis. Latinos are diagnosed at a much later stage and have a disproportionately lower survival rate. Latina women are less likely to perform breast self-exams, get mammograms, and are less likely to seek medical care when they suspect something is wrong. LCC works to educate individuals on the importance of early detection and screening through the following: community events, cancer health bingo, and partnerships with local organization.
Cancer screening can be costly and challenging for those without insurance. LCC provides education on the cancer screening process. LCC is works to provide access to clinical breast screening mammograms and additional diagnostic services to low-income Latina immigrants in Santa Clara County.
